Mysteries of the Runes - 4 Class Series
This year, Horn and Cauldron will be offering a four-class series titled, “Mysteries of the Runes”! For thousands of years, Germanic/Norse runes have been one of the most emblematic and unique aspects of magic and religion in the Northern Traditions of paganism, and their use and study have made a resurgence since the start of the neo-pagan “renaissance” of the mid 20th century. They represent a vibrant magical system that can enhance anyone’s spiritual perception and personal, magical practice!
This four class series is open to all, and you do not have to be a member of Horn and Cauldron in order to register and participate.
Though they originate in Northern Europe, anyone can experience the runes fully and use them in their life, regardless of ancestry. The goal of this series of classes will be to develop and deepen your understanding and relationship with the energy of the runes, helping you to internalize them. No previous experience with the runes is necessary to participate in this class series!
To help us internalize the energy of the runes, the classes will include:
Group discussion and peer-sharing of perspectives and ideas.
Guided meditation and visualization exercises.
Inscribing (drawing) the runes, as well as galdr, meaning “incantation”, the sacred sound of the runes.
Stadhagaldr, or “rune stances”, sacred postures used to connect with the runes’ energy since ancient times.
Short reading materials synthesizing perspectives on the runes from some of the world’s most renowned rune magicians and theorists, to supplement individual research and study.
Info About the Classes:
Date and Time:
First Class: Sunday 2/23/25 from 2-4 PM.
At each class, the group can schedule the next class together after discussing everyone’s schedule, availability, and preferences. This pattern will continue until the fourth class, after which the series will conclude.
Location: Home of Horn and Cauldron, Church of the Earth in Greene, RI.
Address will be provided upon RSVP if needed!
Facilitator: Pat, a Horn and Cauldron clergy student specializing in the runes.
Cost: $120 for all four classes, $100 for coven members.
paypal.me/hornandcauldron or cash in-person.
Proceeds go to Horn and Cauldron, Church of the Earth, to support future classes, rituals, and other events for our Wiccan and pagan community.
Participants are encouraged to attend all four classes! You will unfortunately not be able to pay a reduced fee if you cannot attend them all, but scheduling each class after the first together as a group should help to limit this possibility.
How to sign up: RSVP at rsvp@hornandcauldron.com by Friday February 21st.
Required materials:
A notebook: lined paper is not required, the paper could be blank, too.
Recommended materials:
Having your own rune set can enhance the experience of the class, but is not required. Advice for buying a rune set or creating your own will be provided in the first class.
Additional reading materials such as Taking up the Runes (Diane Paxton), Furthark: A Handbook of Rune Magic (Edred Thorsson), Nordic Runes (Paul Rhys Mountfort) or similar would aid in individual study and comprehension, but shorter summaries combining these perspectives and more will be provided in the classes.
You may choose to dress in ritual or magical clothing for the classes to help separate the magical nature of the classes from your mundane life, but regular “street clothes” are totally fine! Even a special necklace or piece of jewelry can have this same effect!
If you have any other questions, feel free to reply to this email, or send your question in the RSVP email listed above! Looking forward to these classes exploring the Mysteries of the Runes!
Blessings,
-Pat, on behalf of the clergy of Horn and Cauldron, Church of the Earth
